Our Story

 

Ben has worked as a butcher in Walton on Thames for over 15 years, starting as a Saturday boy at his local butcher shop when he was just 13 years old, where he mastered his extensive butchery skills and gathered a wealth of experience within the industry. Full of determination to own his own butcher shop by the time he reached 30, he did not think twice when his dream butchers shop in Hinchley Wood became available, offering a location in the hub of a fantastic local community.

The Butcher in the Wood opened in August 2017 and offers modern expertise along with traditional values. Our aim is to make meat more appealing and modern, whilst giving everybody a taste of meat as it ought to be, along with enthusiastic, approachable, knowledgeable staff.

As a high-quality butcher, we pride ourselves on sourcing and supplying only the finest free range, farm reared meat and game from a selection of Great Britain farmers and producers. Our top quality beef and lamb comes directly from farms in Scotland and is supplied to us by John Scott Meat, where it is naturally fed and reared. We also source the finest quality farm assured English lambs through TW Ludgate, who locally source all of their produce. Our free-range pork is supplied by Packington Farm, where the pigs are truly ‘free-range’. Born and living outdoors for their whole lives with plenty of space to roam, they’re read to the highest welfare standards and are recognised within the industry and RSPCA Freedom Foods as the best that you can get.  In addition to our more traditional offerings, barbeque meats are our speciality and unlike many butchers these days, we work with the whole carcass, meaning our expert butchers can offer any cut you desire in a variety of different marinades, along with an extensive range of handmade sausages, burgers and kebabs.

Aside from just meat, we also stock a wide variety of delicious artisan produce including fine cheeses, charcuterie, homemade black pudding, cooked hams and other cooked meats, which are all prepared onsite. We also stock various ready to cook meals, pies, cook in sauces, pickles, honey and other local produce and condiments. We want to ensure we have all the essentials so that you can put together some great home cooking with ease.

The Butcher in the Wood can also provide Hog Roasts and BBQs for any occasion and has the staff and knowledge to make sure you receive only the finest of foods. A hog roast or barbecue is a cost effective, social and informal way to feed a crowd. When you bring in a master butcher to lay it on for you, you can be sure that not only will everything be taken care of, but it will taste incredible!
